Sanitas reports strong results for 2021

Significant growth in revenue and operating profit in 2021 for our network partner in Spain.

Sanitas, our network partner in Spain, has reaffirmed their outstanding results and qualitative consistency at the highest level. Grupo Sanitas are able to report revenue growth of 9.5% to €2,368 million and operating profit growth of 16% to €206 million in 2021.

Return to pre-pandemic levels: The recovery of activity in hospitals and dental clinics, together with strong sales in the insurance market, have allowed a return to pre-pandemic growth levels in Spain.

Pandemic as catalyst for digitization: The pandemic has proven to be a relevant catalyst for digitization, with digital queries multiplying by 18 since 2019. The company has continued to digitize its services in 2021 with 12% of queries being digital, reaching 782,000 (+22%), with peaks exceeding 4,200 per day.

Record year for insurance sales: With 376,965 new clients, 121,000 more than the previous year, 2021 closed as a record year for insurance sales.

Extension of digital health model: Sanitas is extending its digital health model to other markets through the Bupa Europe and Latin America (ELA) market unit, which is piloted from Spain.

Business evolution driven by Spain: Digitization of insurance and health services, acquisition of hospitals, commercial alliances and dental expansion in new countries are the driving forces for the evolution of businesses, promoted from Spain.

Additional healthcare network planned: Sanitas is planning to have in place one more healthcare center in the network by 2025. Therefore, the Sanitas Valdebebas hospital project in Madrid will still be launched this year.

Commitment to emission reduction: Sanitas and Bupa have committed to becoming an organization free of direct emissions in 2030 and indirect emissions in 2040, according to SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative).
